Grew Up On That - EP

High Valley has spent the last dozen-plus years first building a Canadian audience, then courting American fans with their slick string band and contemporary country-pop blend. All along, singing, strumming, and songwriting brothers Brad and Curtis Rempel have favored gentlemanly and devotional sensibilities that suit their sound. The duo points back to the source of it all on the Grew Up on That EP. During the anthemic title track, the Rempels sing of the rural ways and moral codes they’re striving to live up to: “Keep a good name, that's the way we were raised.” The acoustic-leaning “Your Mama” expresses appreciation and reverence for motherly nurture and guidance, and “Northern Star,” with its full-throated folk-style harmonizing, celebrates the spiritually steadying qualities of a mate. "I’ve always prayed for a porch light/To keep me from losing my way in the dark," the brothers sing. "I finally found it in your eyes/Leading me home like a northern star."
