Good Company

Good Company

With the blistering banjo of songs like “Long Gone,” Canadian bluegrass pickers The Dead South started a fire that feels like it could burn up a country dance floor. Elsewhere on their debut album, they pull back the pace with the slow strummed intro to “The Recap,” but it picks up again with a gruff, lonesome voice growling tales of barroom damnation. “Banjo Odyssey,” a tale of kissin’ cousins, concludes things as a wailing fiddle sets the stage for a stormy banjo spotlight.
