Position: Begin in Contra Position, men in one line and ladies in another (men usually face the source of music, ladies face away) with about six feet separating the two lines. Opposing dancers should be slightly offset from each other so as to allow passing right shoulder to right shoulder when both move forward. Footwork is identical for both partners. Try to maintain eye contact as much as possible during this dance. It really adds to the "Check-it-out" theme.

CHA-CHA FORWARD AND BACK
1Left rock step forward
2Right rock step back
3&4Cha-cha-cha left, right, left in place (3 steps per 2 beats of music)
5Right rock step back
6Left rock step forward
7&8Cha-cha-cha right, left, right in place

CHA-CHA FORWARD AND CHECK-IT-OUT
9Left walk step forward
10Right walk step forward, passing right shoulder to right shoulder and moving slightly beyond partner
11&12Cha-cha-cha in place left, right, left
13Right rock step back, turning ¼ turn to the right to face partner
You should be lined up facing partner and able to "Check-It-Out"
14Left rock step forward turning ¼ turn to the left to face original direction (and moving past partner again)
15&16Cha-cha-cha right, left, right in place
You have "Checked-Out" your partner, you're interested, but let's be cool about this!

TURN, CHA-CHA, TURN CHA-CHA
17Left rock step forward pivoting ½ turn to the right (still moving away-but let's go back for another look!)
18Right rock step forward (you should now be side by side, left shoulder to left shoulder)
19&20Cha-cha-cha left, right, left in place
21Right rock step forward pivoting ½ turn to the left (moving away again-but let's go back for still another look!)
22Left rock step forward (you should now be side by side, right shoulder to right shoulder)
23&24Cha-cha-cha right, left, right in place
Great Partner. Checks out OK --- but let's look at all of the angles!

WALK-AROUND AND CHA-CHA
25Left cross step behind right (now facing partner)
26Right side step to right (now left shoulder to left shoulder)
27&28Cha-cha-cha left, right, left in place
29Right cross step over left (now back to back)
30Left side step to left (now right shoulder to right shoulder)
31&32Cha-cha-cha right, left, right in place
Still looks good. Let's see if there could be an introduction!

CHA-CHA, HELLO, CHA-CHA
33Left walk step forward (angle slightly right) away from partner
34Right walk step forward (angle slightly right) away from partner
35&36Cha-cha-cha left, right, left while turning ½ turn to the right
You will now be in your partner's original position, about 6 feet apart slightly offset
37Right rock step back (men bow and tip hats, lady's curtsy (don't be shy now!))
38Left rock step forward (straighten up)
39&40Cha-cha-cha right, left, right in place
You will not always be exactly in the right position. Use the Cha-Cha-Cha steps to adjust where necessary.
